Especially new businesses, charged by their enthusiasm and excitement, consider it a waste of time. In reality project planning saves more time than it consumes, it serves as a road map for the project, helping it in getting complete in a smooth and timely manner. Misuse of company’s resources and lots of disputes can be avoided by laying down a plan in advance. Main components of a project plan are discussed below.

Goals & Objectives:
First thing to decide and clearly state in a project plan is the goals and objectives of the project, both from company’s and client’s perspective, like what needs to be done and in how much time? Not only it provides the people working on project with unmistakable targets but it also allows the management to evaluate the work in later stages. Ultimate goal can be divided into small milestones to keep a check on the performance.

Authority & Accountability:
People directly or indirectly responsible for project completion, their coordinates and subordinates, persons to whom they should report, everything should be mentioned in a plan. Every project has several risks involved and some alternate actions should be suggested to counter them. It’s good to point out alternate approaches like A, B and C to tackle the problems which are most likely to happen. That doesn’t mean you need to make three or four separate plans.

Implementation & Evaluation:
Plan should be practical enough to facilitate the process of implementation.

The hard work that entails developing and marketing electronic products could fail to bear fruit because of just one thing – inability to obtain approval from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). Failure to obtain this approval means that the product has to be withdrawn from the market.

While remedial measures can be taken to address the problems, delay in marketing and sales ultimately means additional costs and loss of precious time. Fortunately, most of the problems that lead to non-compliance can be addressed at an early stage, enabling a company to avoid costly re-tests.

Failing to Pay Heed to FCC Requirements During Product Design Phase

When a company is designing a new electronic product, it is important to find out what the FCC requires with regard to the control of electro-magnetic emissions. Of critical importance to the FCC is the amount of Electro-Magnetic Interference (EMI) that an electronic product generates.

In its regulatory role, the FCC is mandated to make sure that the use of one electronic device does interfere with the functionality of another. To address this concern, the FCC has established standards that manufacturers should follow during the design of their products and knowing what is required of a specific product will greatly facilitate the approval of the final product. Testing, such as semiconductor testing, can be completed to ensure a product’s safety.

Failing To Meet the EMI Range of a Product

Electronic products sold in the US are grouped in two classes; A & B. Class A products are those intended for commercial or industrial use while class B devices are for home use.

To determine where to classify a product, the FCC uses the product’s electromagnetic emissions. These are measured using the EMI range of a product, which shows the voltage levels accepted for products in both classes. Products failing to meet the specific EMI range requirements cannot be granted FCC approval.

Failure to Use Approved Material

Some materials are not accepted in the production of particular components of electronic products and incorporating them in a product will deny you FCC approval. For example, the FCC will not approve any electronic product with connectors made of plastics. Additionally, the approving body requires that all cables used for connection are properly shielded to safeguard users from the risk of electric shock.

Failure to Provide Adequate Documentation

Quite unbelievably, a good amount of applications for FCC approval fail to go through because of inadequate documentation by the applicants. For documents to be accepted by the FCC, they must both be complete and also presented in the right format. FCC only accepts documents presented in specified electronic formats. Moreover, the documents presented must follow a logical and consistent sequencing.
